PCB approves budget after four-month delay

The much-delayed and much-objected budgets of the PCB from 2007-08 and 2009-10 have finally been approved by the board of governors. The budget for the current year was approved after a four-month delay - it should've been approved by July 1 - amounting to, according to reports, roughly Rs1.5 billion.

Wazir Ali Khoja, a member of the governing board, told reporters after the meeting in Lahore that the budget had been approved and that one from 2007-08 had also been given conditional approval. That budget, from the administration of Nasim Ashraf, chairman of the board before Ijaz Butt, had been the subject of much scrutiny and objection. One believed to be among them is the alleged substantial golden handshake payment made to Inzamam-ul-Haq upon his retirement from Test cricket in October 2007.

But the budget had to be passed, with some conditions to rectify the objections, because grant payments from the ICC would not otherwise be released to Pakistan - or any member nation - unless the budget had been given approval by the governing body.

Butt, who was a governing board member himself under Ashraf, had raised objections to the budget even then, though the issue was never satisfactorily resolved.

WWE

Where else but in the world of Zangief and Kratos can a man lift the 500-pound Big Show and the 250-pound Edge ... at the same time?

WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2010

But that's the weight Cena hoisted during this past WrestleMania, a feat he laughs off in an almost shylike manner.

"I didn't know if I was going to have it in me," he says, "but I guess that's what makes WrestleMania WrestleMania."

But could he add any more weight the next time Mania rolls through? Maybe add Hornswoggle as almost a cherry on the top for a triple slam?

"Don't let Hornswoggle fool you," Cena says of the 4-foot-4, 138-pound leprechaun. "He's heavy."

ESPN caught up with Cena, the biggest star in wrestling since the days of The Rock and Stone Cold, to talk about everything from performing his own stunts in the film "12 Rounds" to being the face of the upcoming game "WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2010." Here's what he had to say:

just dropped on DVD. Did wrestling in WWE help prepare you for the stunt work you had to perform in the movie?

John Cena: Not only the stunt work but the acting as well. One thing people don't realize is we film episodic television. We're the first to say that what we do is entertainment and it's for the sake of the fans. The fans are pretty much why we exist. So you learn to perform on the fly, and you pretty much learn how to act. So not only did it help me with the stunt work as far as keeping in good physical shape, but it helped me understand the story, helped me understand the script and helped me understand my role. It really got me prepared to be an actor. Those people who are successful in the wrestling business really have to be well-rounded.

worst of the worst

The PBR is known for having the rankest bulls in the world. And when your bulls are particularly nasty, so are the wrecks. ESPN.com has evaluated the worst wrecks of the Built Ford Tough season so far and chosen the 10 worst. But with six regular-season events and the World Finals still left on the calendar, you can bet there will be plenty more before the New Year.

Nov 1 Nowitzki not done with Team Germany, wants to play with Kaman

The former twosome met in Saturday’s Los Angeles Clippers-Dallas Mavericks game, a matchup that was worthy of little attention outside the future implications for the German national team, particularly with the team seemingly in line for a “wild card” spot to be handed out for the 2010 FIBA World Championships.

Stein opines that Germany is in the mix for a FIBA wild card, along with Russia, Lithuania, and “Great Britain – home team for the 2012 Olympics and a fast-improving hoops nation led by Chicago’s Luol Deng” and that Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has promised that “discussion about Nowitzki returning to the national team would be reopened as long as he took ‘a year off.’”

Who's the Biggest NBA Star?

Just for fun I plugged in some big names to see who is the most popular by these measures. After trying various names (Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Garnett, for instance, did not get impressive results) I quickly settled on LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade, and Michael Jordan as my terms for comparison. Then I mixed in Tiger Woods for some big-picture perspective.

Turns out Tiger Woods is the biggest star of that bunch, but not by all that much. (If you want to see how a real internet star dwarfs these pretenders, plug in "Britney Spears" compared to Michael Jordan.)
